Toys “R” Us x AWF
As the leading kids store for toys and games, Toys “R” Us has always been linked with all things play — and its iconic mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe has been bringing joy to children since 1957. Now the retailer will help bring play and conservation education to children at African Wildlife Foundation’s Classroom Africa schools. With a focus on schools in areas with high giraffe populations like Manyara Ranch Primary School, this new partnership will help expose children to their natural environment and educate them about vulnerable species, like giraffes. Through student field trips inside national parks, talks and ranger-led activities and education on local species, Toys “R” Us and AWF will provide rural schoolchildren with the opportunity to experience the uniqueness of the environment in which they live and promote positive interactions with wildlife.

US Withdraws from Paris Agreement
This month began with devastating news from the United States: the nation announced it would withdraw from the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change mitigation. This decision could have disastrous consequences for Africa’s environment and poor, said AWF President Kaddu Sebunya. “We are the authors of our fate, and we are in a unique position to write a new kind of success story,” said Sebunya, as he called on African leaders to reconfirm their commitment to the Paris Agreement.
